Minister for Tourism Promoting SA tourism to Europe

Minister for Tourism Zoe Bettison is travelling to England, Switzerland and France from 20-30 October 2023 to explore opportunities to attract more events and visitors to South Australia and attend a series of business meetings on behalf of the South Australian Government.

Whilst travelling through Doha, Minister Bettison will meet with Qatar Airways executives to discuss future engagement and collaboration with the Adelaide Airport.

Whilst in France, Minister Bettison will be joining the World Rugby Hosting program to engage with senior World Rugby leaders who have gathered in Paris for the Rugby World Cup 2023, to discuss opportunities for the men’s Rugby World Cup 2027 and the women’s Rugby World Cup 2029, which will both be held in Australia.

Meetings will also be held with Amaury Sport Organisation, to discuss further opportunities following the Malinauskas Government’s support to expand the Tour Down Under to include the first Women’s WorldTour stage race in the southern hemisphere in 2023.

Whilst in the UK, Minister Bettison will attend a series of meetings with key businesses and tourism industry leaders to find new ways to boost South Australia’s record visitor economy, including representatives from Trailfinders, Flight Centre, Tourism Australia, Surrey University, and the Royal Horticultural Society.

Minister Bettison will also travel to Switzerland to attend the Great Wine Capitals Global Network Annual General Meeting, as well as conduct further meetings for commercial opportunities for the state in both the Tourism and Primary Industries portfolios.

Quotes attributable to Zoe Bettison

Europe is a significant source of our international visitor economy here in South Australia, and prior to COVID it was worth $182 million to our visitor economy each year.

It is essential that we continue to strengthen our relationships with key leaders overseas and pursue new opportunities for South Australia to take our visitor economy beyond our record breaking $9.9 billion achievement.

This trip follows a business roadshow arranged by the State Government in May 2023, where 29 South Australian tourism operators were able to meet and network with a number of travel agents and product managers in the UK, as well as Germany, Italy and France.

These meetings will identify opportunities for partnership and collaboration and will also ensure that South Australia remains front of mind amongst tourism industry leaders in Europe.
